Biography
JSAL is an award-winning Jordanian-Canadian singer-songwriter, breast cancer survivor, and emerging pop artist whose self-defined genre, Phoenix Pop, blends cinematic, anthemic English pop production with subtle Middle Eastern melodic phrasing, vocal ornamentation, and/or tonal expression drawn from her cultural heritage. Her work is anchored in emotionally driven storytelling rooted in resilience, healing, and transformation, turning lived adversity into music centered on self-belief and emotional recovery. Her debut album “Rising Phoenix" (released May 2), brings this vision to life as a cohesive journey from darkness to light, tracing themes of pain, rebirth, and empowerment through a cinematic and deeply personal pop lens.
"I didn’t just write songs for Rising Phoenix, I wrote my way back to life.”
Since launching her career in 2024, JSAL has quickly emerged as a standout voice in Canadian music, earning a nomination for “Emerging Talent of the Year 2024” by Mississauga Music, winning the “Emerging Solo Vocalist Marty Award 2025” from the Mississauga Arts Council, and being named “Emerging Talent of the Year 2025” by Mississauga Music. These accolades reflect not only her vocal ability and songwriting, but also the emotional authenticity and storytelling depth that define her artistry.
Raised with a deep connection to music from a young age, JSAL developed an early instinct for storytelling through sound and writing. A piano gifted to her in childhood became a space for emotional expression, later expanding into lyric-journaling as a way to process her inner world but kept largely private.
Her path took a life-altering turn after moving to Canada, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2023. During treatment and long hours in hospital rooms and waiting areas, her relationship with music was profoundly redefined, becoming a form of healing, emotional release, and survival. Songwriting and journaling became her lifeline, forming the emotional foundation of her artistry. From this lived experience, JSAL chose to share her music publicly through “The Phoenix Saga”, a creative world she established that reminds people they are not alone and empowers them to rise.
Sonically, JSAL’s Phoenix Pop is cinematic and anthemic in scale, driven by emotionally charged pop production and shaped by subtle Middle Eastern melodic phrasing, vocal ornamentation, and/or tonal nuance drawn from her cultural heritage. These elements are not stylistic additions, but an intrinsic part of her sound and identity.
Her debut album “Rising Phoenix” expands this sound into a cohesive body of work that moves through pain, healing, transformation, and empowerment. It reflects a fully realized artistic identity, combining cinematic production with raw emotional storytelling and a more intentional, self-directed creative approach. JSAL is also developing her role in co-production and sound design, further shaping a sound that is distinctly her own.
Beyond music, JSAL founded “The Resilience Room”, a reflective blog dedicated to honest conversations around healing, creativity, and the courage to rise. This extension of her work reinforces her commitment to building community and emotional connection beyond the stage.
On stage, JSAL delivers immersive, cinematic performances that blend storytelling, live band arrangements, choreography, and backup dancers into emotionally charged experiences. Whether through high-energy pop productions or intimate acoustic sets, her performances invite audiences into moments of reflection, release, and strength. Across every setting, her work comes from a singular place: truth.
From early self-expression through piano and writing to an award-winning emerging artist in Canada, JSAL’s journey embodies endurance, reinvention, and purpose. Through “The Phoenix Saga”, she offers music not just to be heard, but to be felt; an anthem for anyone learning how to rise again.
